  1. Do Incentives Change Human Behavior?

    April 11, 2012 by admin

    What is an Incentive?
The dictionary defines an incentive as; an inducement or supplemental reward that serves as a motivational device to get a desired action or behavior. In other words, encouraging someone to do what you want them to do by giving them a reward for doing so.

Incentives get a person to do something that is in their best interests to do anyway. You cannot incentivize someone to go against their self interests but you can use incentives to convince them that of all their good choices yours is the best choice.

Incentivizing Employees Focuses Them on the Job at Hand
You’ve heard the old honey versus vinegar analogy. Positive reinforcement works and incentives are a great way for an employer to get employees focused on company goals. Rewarding employees for achieving those goals is a great way to reinforce positive activity in others.

It is important to remember that incentives do not need to be monetary in nature. Look for a wide range of incentive solutions before you decide on the best solution for your company. A company like Capitol Marketing will present you with a range of options then work closely with you to develop a winning incentives strategy.

Incentivizing Customers create a tie-breaker versus your competition.
Businesses that create well structured customer incentive programs will usually win in a competitive market because the right incentive is the tie-breaker. Incentives can be awarded in a number of ways and a combination of these usually is the best formula:

    • Incent and reinforce the transaction: provide a basic reward or recognition the first time and every time the desired activity is performed.
    • Reward key milestones: dangle a larger carrot for the larger accomplishment
    • Reward the end result: the most attractive reward is reserved for the customer that meets or exceeds the overall goal. The greatest reward is offered for the ultimate results.

Incentives are production boosters, morale boosters and PR opportunities
Let a professional incentive marketing company like CMC show you how. Our consulting is free and our services guaranteed.

  2. The Best Travel Incentives & Rewards, Why They Work

    April 6, 2012 by admin

The Best Rewards are Travel Rewards

This is purely my opinion but it is based on some solid data. First, I love to travel and most people think of travel as part of an ideal get away vacation. When you travel you are likely going someplace interesting and different from your everyday existence. The operative words are “get away”. When you reward a customer or an employee with a travel gift the reward is Time and Escape. The value of these gifts far outweighs the dollar cost of the trip itself.

Travel Rewards create top of mind for your business

Everyone is grateful when they receive a gift or award. Once the gift is put away in a drawer or closet it can be easily forgotten. When you give the gift of travel you will be top of mind during that entire happy experience and remembered every time a picture from the trip is seen. Travel rewards are the gifts that keep giving back to you in goodwill.

    Are Travel Rewards expensive?

Expensive is a relative term. There is a big difference in the value of a $1 million customer and a $1,000 customer so the amount you spend on the reward should be commensurate with the value of your customer. If you think a travel reward price tag is too expensive ask your incentive marketing partner to find a more appropriate solution. You should be able to choose from a variety of options including:

    • Drive Away Vacations that allow folks to get far enough away that they can relax and not worry about job or family duties.
    • Fly Away Vacations that can turn a long weekend into a full blown vacation escape.
    • Sail Away Vacations that allow for the ultimate no worries treat.
    • Sports Getaways allow sports fans to get away and see their team on the road

All of these can be adjusted to fit a variety of budgets so don’t be afraid to ask your Incentive Marketing Specialist to provide you with a full range of reward options.

  3. Best Sales Incentive Solutions

    April 3, 2012 by admin

The best sales incentive solutions are ones that are well matched to business goals

Every industry has its own set of challenges and distinct goals based on the culture of that industry. Each business in the industry is likely targeting different market segments or be focused on a different brand message. Creating the best sales incentive solution, therefore, is a very individualized process. Your incentive marketing partner needs to have the experience and be able to offer a variety of solutions, otherwise you might be offered a solution that best fits their business model instead of yours.

Figure out what you want your customer or employee to do

    Think carefully what you want them to do for you;

    • Try a New Product or Service
    • Buy More of what they already use
    • Refer a Friend
    • etc.

Your marketing partner should be able to help you figure out the value to you of that desired action. This will help you work together on designing a budget that gets results and provides you the ROI you need for success.

The best sales incentive solutions build repeat business

If you do a good job of incentivizing the first transaction you’ll have succeeded in breaking through the biggest obstacle. You have not, however, created long-term success. You need to get them to change the desired transaction into a habit. That may take reinforcement and the opportunity for additional rewards down the road.

Incentives followed by long-term rewards encourages a habit

Incentives are not, therefore, a one stop solution but part of an overall strategy of long term engagement. So, what are the best sales incentive solutions? You now know it depends on your needs but here are some examples of great solutions we recommend:

    1. Traffic Builders are inexpensive rewards that get potential customers in the door and engaged with you. It is also a great lead generation tool for your sales team.
    2. Tie Breaker Deals are affordable rewards that encourage customers to make the buy. They are also great for luring customers away from the competition in a competitive market place.
    3. Gift Cards are great because they can be offered in almost any value and the assortment of offers from gas to restaurant to shopping and more give recipients the option to pick their favorite.
    4. Travel Rewards are a more expensive but treasured reward. You can chose from a wide variety of destinations with a range of prices. A travel reward is the gift of both time and escape.

The best sales incentive is not a plug and play solution. With the right incentive marketing company (a total solutions provider) you will quickly be able to find the right solution to fit your budget and get you the results you need whether you are incentivizing your customers or your sales team, or both.

  4. CMC High Performance Tips

    February 9, 2009 by admin

What are your reasons for wanting to be a successful entrepreneur, CEO, manager or sales professional? Why did you choose career profession? What is most important to you?  Why do you do what you do?

Probably one of the most common sets of responses are, “Unlimited income potential” or “The harder I work, the more money I can make” answers. Maybe some of you answered, “The entrepreneurial spirit of building my own business” or maybe “Working with so many different clients is interesting and fun”. Let me challenge you to take it to the next level and give you some tips to program yourself to higher levels of business success and performance.

Every top business owner, CEO, manager or sales producer has clear and compelling reasons that motivate them . They have clearly defined what’s important to them and they have gone far beyond the , “I just want to make a lot of money” goal. You see, they have taken the time to sit down and actually write out all their goals. They have identified all the things they want to do, accomplish and acquire. They know exactly how much they want to earn, the way they want to live, where they want to live, the charities they want to help, the people they want to meet, the types of relationships they want to experience, and ultimately the ideal person they want to become.

Do you realize that less than 8 % of the entire population do this. Yes, while we all know that we should do this, less than 8% actually map, write and think it out. Here is the next fact that will blow your mind, only 22% of the 8% (or less than 2% total) take it to the ultimate performance secret-ESTABLISH A DREAM BOARD. Dream boards are simply a visual representation (pictures) of what you aspire towards.

Why are these two steps ( writing your goals out and establishing a dream board) absolutely critical to your success? You see, to accomplish your goals and dreams, you must stir up a deep emotional charge inside you. You must condition yourself to feel the excitement of seeing yourself accomplishing/attaining your goal.  This critical technique will help you anchor the strength and motivation you will need to fight through the adversities you will face towards your goal attainment. It  provide you the strength to overcome the “negative” self talk we all battle with and continue to create positive action even when you are in a, “Don’t feel like it” mode.

Please understand, anything your mind can conceive and believe, WITH EMOTION, can be achieved. Say it again, ” Anything your mind can conceive and believe, WITH EMOTION, can be achieved”. This is one of the key components of the hit movie-”The Secret”. In one part of the movie, the genie states, “Your wish is my command”. Understand, whatever you ask for and focus on WITH EMOTION will eventually happen. So, if your goal is to, “Just pay my bills”. That is exactly what would happen, you will scrape by, just paying your bills. The key principle here is to make sure your goals are stated in the positive. You never want a goal stated in a negative. As an example, the goal should be , “I want to have financial abundance to pay all my bills and have lots of money left over to invest”. This should be in lieu of, “I don’t want to be broke”. You see, in the latter, your subconscious would focus on the the word “broke” and deliver the results you “don’t want”. Does that make sense?  Pretty cool , isn’t it?

Also, please understand,  the more specific you can be about the goal, the greater the positive impact it will have on you. Finally , when you add the EMOTIONAL charge of the goal-(how it makes you feel in accomplishing your goal), look out -the things you want to achieve are already on the way!

So, this is your WAKE UP CALL. Get your goals and dreams down on paper, state them in the positive, be specific, visualize the goals happening, develop a DREAM BOARD ( I use a book of pictures of my goals to carry around with me) and tie in the positive EMOTIONAL charge of the feeling generated from achieving your goals.  Do this exercise 3 times a day (only a few minutes is needed each time) and you will change your entire life around.

Finally, how do I know this works? Seventeen years ago, I sat down and wrote down my goals (I still have those original five handwritten pages) and did this entire exercise at a time when I was going through a challenging time in my  life.  I have accomplished almost all the goals I wrote down that day. You see, on that day I was “sick and tired” about being “sick and tired”. I took responsibility for the challenges that  I created and decided to change my life. That day was the start of an incredible journey. I hope you make a decision to start yours because everything that you want to accomplish and achieve is there if you want it! The big question, “How bad do you want it?”
